LPW Technology had been pioneering the use of Additive Manufacturing solutions since 2007 with Founder and Managing Director, Dr Phil Carroll virtually single-handedly growing and managing the business for the first 5 years.

With ambitious plans for growth, Dr Carroll's priority was to focus on development of LPW’s opportunities internationally and step out of day to day involvement.  To do this, an effective leadership and management team was needed, not only to take responsibility for the existing business operation, but also to develop the internal structures, processes and procedures to ensure continuous improvement of the service levels provided by Dr Carroll as the company pursued it's growth strategy.

A key step towards this was the appointment, in 2013, of Ben Ferrar as General Manager. Ben’s initial assessment was that whilst everyone was totally committed, hardworking and technically competent in their roles, the business now needed specialists throughout the business who could manage and that investment in a comprehensive programme of development for the emerging leadership and management team was essential. It was also seen as important that the right person was found to deliver such a programme because LPW had quite a young management team and most people had just started taking on direct reports. 

So after meeting a number of possible providers, Ben appointed Dale from the Principle Department to work closely with him, designing a bespoke programme to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience. This included communicating the vision and strategic plan such that there was real buy in and understanding of what was required of them individually, as a leadership and management team and of their people. This investment has enabled them to take themselves and their growing teams to a level where they can do their own job whilst putting processes and systems in place and managing their teams, ensuring that capacity is increased, quality and service continuously improved and the LPW brand and relationships established by Dr Carroll remain uncompromised and enhanced. 

As LPW’s growth plans continue to come to fruition, further investment has been made with Dale in developing the team, some of which has attracted part-funding through the Business Growth Service and other agencies.

Over the last last 18 months, growth has been exponential and LPW continue to invest in developing their people so that the business is able to supply both world class products and service to its customers.
